China is imposing tariffs on Australian barley
But relax for a moment.
No one ever imposes a tariff on anything that actually matters. Sorry to Australian barley producers but it’s a reality because tariffs are a tax on your consumers.
China imposes an 80% import duty because Australia had the audacity to ask for inquiry into their coronavirus pandemic. A pandemic that has killed our people and wrecked our economy.
Australia should respond by imposing import duties on Chinese imports. https://t.co/FQeqmVko9C

Dr Mike Kelly is a good bloke … but this stinks …
Dr Mike Kelly resigned from parliament a week or so ago, giving up his seat of Eden-Monaro. due to ill health.
But he has a new job, as revealed by the ABC:
A United States tech giant with close links to Western intelligence agencies has appointed former Federal Labor MP Mike Kelly to help drive its rapidly expanding operations in Australia.
Founded in 2004, Palantir specialises in the shadowy practice of data mining, and in January its growing global business was privately valued at $US20 billion ($30.61 billion).
“I am not in a position to retire and have no desire to,” Dr Kelly told the ABC when approached about his new role.
He retired as a colonel. The Australian military super is very generous. He may not wish to retire, but this is not the right job it stinks. He is about to work for a military contractor.
Here are some of Dr Kelly’s parliamentary roles:
- Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence from 3.12.2007 to 6.2.2008.
- Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support from 6.2.2008 to 14.9.2010.
- Parliamentary Secretary for Defence from 14.12.2011 to 4.2.2013.
- Minister for Defence Materiel from 4.2.2013 to 18.9.2013.
- Joint Statutory: Intelligence and Security from 15.9.2016.
Parliamentary party positions
- Shadow Assistant Minister for Defence Industry and Support from 23.7.2016 to 2.6.2019.
- Shadow Assistant Minister for Defence from 2.6.2019.
It is wrong. Plain. Simple. Wrong.
The fascists are loving their new-found power
This is disturbing – and it’s from a supposedly Liberal minister.
Under the ‘relaxed’ social-distancing rules, up to five people are allowed in a house at the one time. Ah, the sweet smell of freedom. But here’s the advice from the NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard:
“It’s really tough to not be able to hug your mum or kiss your mum, but it would be the wisest course to not do that,” Mr Hazzard said.
He said people should go and enjoy the company of their mum on Sunday, but to be careful.
“We want to keep our mums safe on this Mother’s Day, but no vaccine means we are still vulnerable and we need vigilance,” he said.
NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Worboys said the two-person rule applied to those wanting to visit the cemetery on Mother’s Day.
Suicides from COVID-19
This is a US study but the findings are clear: the impact of COVID-19, especially as it relates to the lockdown, will result in deaths:
COVID-19 has directly claimed tens of thousands of U.S. lives, but conditions stemming from the novel coronavirus — rampant unemployment, isolation and an uncertain future — could lead to 75,000 deaths from drug or alcohol abuse and , new research suggests.
Deaths from these causes are known as “deaths of despair.” And the COVID-19 pandemic may be accelerating conditions that lead to such deaths.
“Deaths of despair are tied to multiple factors, like Well Being Trust in Oakland, Calif.`, , and isolation. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were already an unprecedented number of deaths of despair. We wanted to estimate how this pandemic would change that number moving forward,” said one of the study’s authors, Benjamin Miller. He’s chief strategy officer for the
The shocking case of Michael Flynn
Obama has leaked comments about the Michel Flynn case, saying that the “rule of law is at risk” in the wake of what he called an unprecedented move by the Justice Department to drop charges against former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Read the truth about the Michael Flynn case. The more you know, the more obvious it is that Obama is very worried about where this could lead:
But here’s the most shocking angle: Obama knew. That’s why he’s so angry about it.

Irving Berlin (b 1888)
Is he the greatest American songwriter? Possibly. With White Christmas as a credit (not bad for a Jewish songwriter) he could have stopped after just one song. of course, he didn’t. He added about 1500 more.
There was Blue Skies, a massive hit for Willie Nelson. Here he is performing it with Kenny Rogers on double bass to celebrate Berlin’s 101st birthday (Berlin died at 101).
And this from the great Satchmo and Ella:
And check out What’ll I Do from Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
This isn’t bad from Bea Arthur, who was actually a Broadway star before she hit it big on TV:
