There are literally too many stories detailing how rotten the situation in Afghanistan is.
You know how horrible it is.
You might, however, enjoy the Taliban owning the left over free speech.
For the record, they are still on Twitter and YouTube.
Lucky they aren’t orange.
The S-hole that is Afghanistan
From the State Department, 17 November 2001:
Under Taliban rule, women were given only the most rudimentary access to health care and medical care, thereby endangering the health of women, and in turn, their families. In most hospitals, male physicians could only examine a female patient if she were fully clothed, ruling out the possibility of meaningful diagnosis and treatment.
These Taliban regulations led to a lack of adequate medical care for women and contributed to increased suffering and higher mortality rates. Afghanistan has the world’s second worst rate of maternal death during childbirth. About 16 out of every 100 women die giving birth. Inadequate medical care for women also meant poor medical care and a high mortality rate for Afghan children. Afghanistan has one of the world’s highest rates of infant and child mortality. According to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), 165 of every 1000 babies die before their first birthday.
It’s all horrible. But read it all.
Biden reckons these people have changed.
Osama had Biden’s number
Osama bin Laden once warned al Qaeda not to target Joe Biden because he believed that his inheriting the presidency if something were to happen to Barack Obama would “lead the US into a crisis,” a resurfaced letter shows.
In the letter dated May 2010, the al Qaeda 9/11 mastermind wrote he had no assassination plots against Biden because he deemed him “totally unprepared” to lead the United States.
We’re all in this together
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller is being given yet another pay rise during the pandemic, with taxpayers now forking out $665,750 per year.
Despite the Commissioner planning to leave the post in April next year, he will receive a $16,250 (2.5 per cent) pay increase this financial year.
The boost follows the $87,000 pay rise he received in 2020. Mr Fuller does not set his own wages.
Imagine the pat rise he’d accept if he could.
Last year Fuller got a 0.3 per cent pay rise. That was where the $16,000 came from.
That works out to about $300 a week. Or about $7 an hour.
For the record, the average nurse in NSW got a 14 cent an hour pay rise.
We’re all in this together.
Update on January 6: in case you’re wondering
The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.
Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.
“Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases,” said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. “Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.”
Hmmm. Tony Jones has a Four Corners episode on 23 August which will almost certainly try to pin January 6 on Trump and Rupert Murdoch (fearless prediction).
Let’s see if he’s right.
